March 3, 2019

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez tweeted on Monday morning, “We must talk about suicide” in order to understand and prevent it.

March 3, 2019 – 11:00 pm: A woman walked out into traffic and was hit by a car on Sunday night. The woman was dead on the scene. A deputy from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office reports that, “We did find some notes indicating she wanted to harm herself, suicide notes basically, apologizing to family members, saying she was sorry.”

The accident happened on I-45, just before Paramatta. The highway was shut down for almost five hours on Sunday night.

The driver who hit the woman was not injured, although her grandparents told reporters she might go to the hospital and get herself checked out. The grandparents say she was shaken up, but not hurt.

The family of the woman who killed herself has since been notified. Her identity has not been made public.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez spoke to reporters about the need for people to talk openly about suicide and suicide prevention. He told reporters that 78 people have committed suicide in Harris County in 2019 to date.
