News reports suggest that the accident may have been caused by a malfunctioning traffic light.
October 2, 2018 – 2:58 pm: One person was killed and another was injured in a crash that took place in Vidor on Tuesday afternoon. Identities of the victims have not been released at this time.
The accident took place on Highway 12 at FM 1132 (Evangeline Drive).
One of the drivers was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was taken to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital. The injured driver is said to be in stable condition at this time.
According to witnesses on the scene, the accident may have been caused by a non-operational traffic light going northbound on the highway. Linda Mcdowell, a witness to the accident, said she drives through the intersection often and that the light is often out of operation. She told reporters, “They need to do something about the light before someone else gets hurt.”
The Vidor Police Department was made aware of the light and passed the information on to the Texas Department of Transportation. TXDOT reportedly sent a crew to make repairs to the light.
The accident is still under investigation at this time.
