According to news reports, the driver fled police after they tried to pull the vehicle over for speeding.
November 14, 2018 – 1:18 am: An unidentified individual was killed in a police chase in the eastern part of Harris County very early on Wednesday morning.
The chase started near the intersection of Thompson Road and Jones Road when the driver refused to stop after police tried to pull them over for speeding. The accident took place on the eastbound lanes of the East Freeway.
The driver entered the East Freeway, going westbound on the eastbound lanes. Driving against the flow of traffic, the driver hit speeds of more than 100 miles per hour, according to officers of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
The driver hit one of the barriers on East Freeway and Magnolia, at which time the vehicle burst into flames and hit an 18-wheeler. The driver of the 18-wheeler lost control of the vehicle and went off the road into the grassy area beside the freeway.
The driver fleeing police was killed in the accident. The driver of the 18-wheeler was hospitalized with minor injuries. The accident is still under investigation at this time.
