Man Killed by Drunk Driver in Lubbock

According to news reports, the driver allegedly responsible for the crash faces charges of intoxication manslaughter and may face other charges.

November 6, 2018 – 5:00 pm: The 52-year-old Hector Villarreal-Castaneda was killed in a crash in Lubbock, Texas on Tuesday afternoon. The 20-year-old Keely Walker has been booked and will be charged with intoxication manslaughter for the crash.

The accident took place at the intersection of East Broadway and Idalou Road.

According to investigators, Walker was driving a Jeep Wrangler eastbound on East Broadway. She is reported to have disregarded the stop sign while passing through the intersection with Idalou Road. Villarreal-Castaneda had been traveling northbound on Idalou Road when his Chevy pickup truck was T-boned by Walker’s vehicle.

Villarreal-Castaneda was taken to University Medical Center after the crash and was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.

Traffic was shut down at the crash site immediately afterward and was closed again on Wednesday morning around 10 a.m. while crash investigators mapped the scene.

Walker was arrested and faces charges of intoxication manslaughter, and police report that she may face additional charges as well. At this time, her bond is set at $100,000.
