November 7, 2018 – 1:40 pm: An 8-year-old boy has died after a serious car accident allegedly caused by his father. The 30-year-old Fernando Carcamo has been charged with manslaughter, along with aggravated assault causing bodily injury.
The accident took place Wednesday afternoon on the 2400 block of West Mount Houston, where Carcamo was driving a 2007 Chevrolet.
According to authorities, Carcamo was speeding when he hit the rear end of a Dodge Ram, at which time his vehicle spun around and hit another vehicle.
Carcamo’s children, who appear to have been recently picked up from school, were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident. The 8-year-old was killed in the accident, and the 5-year-old had a traumatic injury to the head and neck.
Immediately after the accident, authorities believed Carcamo was intoxicated. According to subsequent reports, however, the signs of intoxication may have been a result of medication he received from EMS personnel after the accident.
Testing found that Carcamo’s blood alcohol levels were well below legal limits.
Events surrounding this accident are still unfolding and the investigation is ongoing.
